About us
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) was originally established on January 1, 1916, as the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (DANR) through Act No. 2666. It was reorganized several times—becoming the Department of Agriculture and Commerce (1932), reverting to DANR (1947), and later separated as the Ministry of Natural Resources (1974).
In 1987, it was reorganized into the Department of Environment, Energy and Natural Resources under Executive Order No. 131, and finally renamed the DENR under Executive Order No. 192. One of its major programs was the National Greening Program (2011–2016), a nationwide reforestation initiative aimed at addressing deforestation, land degradation, and rural poverty.
